Dark Boiled Fruit Cake

The raisins boiled up with the butter, spices and cocoa first, then everything else stirred in cold.

Ingredients
  • 1 lb raisins
  • 1 ½ cups butter
  • 1 tsp mixed spice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 3 tsp cocoa
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 cups warm water
  • ½ lb mixed peel
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • ½ lb dates
  • 1 pkg cherries
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3 cups flour
Method
  1. Put the raisins, butter, spices, cocoa, sugar and two cups of warm water into a saucepan. Let it boil ten minutes.
  2. Put it back to cool.
  3. Add the peel, nuts, dates, cherries, baking soda, baking powder and flour. Mix well.
  4. Bake 2 hours at 300.
